little pioneer village
Walk at night through candle-lit woods, relax with friends by a campfire, tour cozy cabins and sample old-time foods cooked on hundred-year-old wood stoves or in cozy fireplaces.
The annual Shubael Little Pioneer Village Candle-Light Tour will be held on December 11. The gate opens at 3pm and the festival continues till 8 pm. Unlike the previous one in 2019, this year will be only one night, that is, December 11.
Cabin interiors are cheery and warm and enactors in period dress provide samples of old-time foods, mulled cider, sassafras tea and coffee. The Millstone School, Carpenter Shop and Troy Stone Jail will also be open to visitors. The George Little Cabin will host its first Candle Light Tour.
The Gibson Family Band with Friends will entertain in the Mercantile and the Taylor Family Band will entertain in the Millstone School. JD Estes and carolers may be heard strolling through the Village. This is always a magical and in some ways a spiritual experience says Village treasurer Carolyn Hammack. She goes on to say that this is one of Perry County’s best kept holiday secrets. Chuck Poehlein adds that the tour brings to life years of community collaboration, historic preservation and hard work. But the positive comments we hear at the open house make it all worthwhile.
The Village is located just north of Rocky Point on State Road 66. There is a $5.00 parking fee for this event. For more information call 812-549-8459, 812-547-8215, 812-719-1401
