Troy Jail

The Troy Stone Jail, believed to have been built as early as the 1840s, was rebuilt and dedicated at the

Village in 2012. It was donated to the Village by the parish of St. Pius Catholic Church. Bill Gibson dug

the footers and supervised the concrete pour. Michael Simon and Michael Kleeman hauled the stones to

the Village. The jail was rebuilt by John Jackson, Steve Minto and Chuck Poehlein during the hottest

summer on record. Troy’s oldest residents remembered the structure being used as an ice house.

Poehlein said there are dozens of square nails driven into the rafters and the original sheeting boards

are stained black. When it was no longer used as a jail, the building was a smokehouse, he concluded.
